Yoga therapy is a personalized, body-based approach to healing that works at the level of the nervous system. By integrating movement, breathwork, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques, it helps regulate the nervous system — creating the conditions for balance and healing. Since the state of the nervous system influences all aspects of well-being, from physiological functions to mental and emotional health, yoga therapy focuses on restoring this foundation.
Unlike cognitive-based healing methods, which can be difficult to access when the nervous system is disregulated, yoga therapy begins with the body. It gently supports the transition from survival-based states — such as anxiety, overwhelm, or fatigue — into a place where healing can naturally unfold. Lifestyle counseling based on Ayurvedic principles may also be incorporated to support long-term well-being.
Yoga therapy is a complementary practice that works well in concert with psychotherapy and other healing modalities. It empowers you with tools for self-care, resilience, and deeper connection with yourself — meeting you exactly where you are on your journey.
What to Expect in a Yoga Therapy Session
Your First Session
Your journey begins with a thorough health intake that explores your emotional, mental, and physical state through the lens of Ayurveda. Through compassionate conversation, we’ll discuss your overall well-being, current challenges, and personal goals, allowing us to create a customized approach that supports your healing. This may also include Ayurvedic lifestyle guidance to help you establish nourishing daily routines beyond the mat.
During Each Session
A typical yoga therapy session may include some or all of the following:
Conversation – Space to discuss any emotional, mental, or physical challenges you may be experiencing. This helps guide our practice and ensures the therapy remains aligned with your current needs.
Movement – Postures and exercises tailored to support your body’s needs.
Breathwork (Pranayama) – Breathing techniques to calm the nervous system and enhance mental clarity.
Mindfulness & Meditation – Practices to cultivate inner peace, emotional resilience, and self-awareness. The meditations may include chanting if this resonates with the person.
Guided Relaxation – Deep relaxation techniques to promote healing and reduce stress.
Ayurvedic Lifestyle Support – Simple, practical guidance on diet, daily routines, and self-care based on Ayurvedic principles.
Each session is customized to your comfort level—there’s no need for prior yoga experience. Sessions can be held in person or virtually, allowing you to practice in a space where you feel most at ease.
